Catalina Island Destination Wedding
When I first got into wedding photography one of my dreams was to shoot a wedding on Catalina Island. Heck maybe I would even sell all my stuff, get on a boat, live in Avalon and become a Catalina wedding photographer! At that time I was just starting my own business though so I was scared. I thought to myself, “Maybe I’m just gonna to do what’s sensible, I’m gonna file for unemployment. Then I’m gonna try to get a job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, because they got an excellent corporate structure and they… *they* give *you* the tools to be your own boss”. Naturally, I disregarded that cognitive pattern and I am glad I did because this crazy journey wedding photography has put me on made me feel as though a lightning bolt hit the tip of my penis. In a good way. And I am here to tell you kids that dreams do in fact come true because a couple weeks ago I photographed my first destination wedding in Catalina Island!
Evan is originally from the east coast and Melissa from Southern California, but when it came to figuring out where they would have their wedding they chose Catalina Island because they wanted to feel like they were having a destination wedding. They also wanted their wedding guests to experience the awesomeness of Catalina since many of them had never been to the island. So they decided on throwing a kick ass party that would create a bigger buzz than the fucking Catalina wine mixer. Yes the Catalina Island wedding was filled with laughter, tears, top-shelf cocktails and endless good times. The dance floor was packed, but the bar area had plenty of room for recreational drinking and activities. Everything about this wedding in Avalon was rad and if you don’t believe me just take a few moments to check out the photos below from Melissa and Evan’s destination wedding on Catalina Island. Cheers!
For bonus points, how many Step Brothers references did you catch in those first two paragraphs?
Wedding Photography On Catalina Island
About 3 years ago I took some engagement photos on Catalina Island so it was great having that experience to get more familiar with Avalon. But honestly everything is so easily accessible if you have a little time and a golf cart. After the wedding ceremony, we headed to Bueno Vista Point, the iconic Casino, Descano Beach and some other spots throughout Catalina Island. Although we got some really rad photos in those locations, my favorite photographs were just of Melissa and Evan cruising the streets of Avalon in the golf cart.
