Carlsbad California
Kurt and Chantelle are from the state of Washington but when they thought about where they would have their engagement photos taken they decided they wanted a break from that rainy Pacific Northwest scene and instead opted for sand and sunshine. I met up with Kurt and Chantelle in Carlsbad, California, which is one of my personal favorite beach spots. At least a few times a year my wife and daughter and I leave the sweltering I want to die Summer heat of Temecula to take a dip in the Pacific Ocean and relax. We started the day with my normal approach to a photo session which is walking the streets, talking to the couple about their wedding day and randomly stopping for a few minutes here and there to snap some photographs of the local scenery. The start to most photo sessions really is about connecting with the subjects and making them feel comfortable with you and your camera so when that golden hour light comes around you are ready to kick ass and take names. After cruising the streets of Carlsbad we hit up a local brewery and pizza joint called Pizza Port that is always worth dropping in at if you ever find yourself in Carlsbad. Good grub and cold drinks are always in style and Pizza Port offers both so find yourself there at some point. I could go on and on about the day and how we then went to the beach, how the sunset was weak because it got overcast or how Kurt sang Tayor Swift songs on the car ride, but I will stop taking up more of your time and let you check out the photos from our engagement session yourself. Look below. That is where they are.
